YALR started out as a podcast project when Vilate wanted to do more in the world of books for teens and kids. She roped her online friend, Ragu, into co-hosting the YA Lit Review podcast, and put out several episodes including reviews of all four books of the Twilight Saga. After about a year, Vilate decided to expand into author interviews and short fiction. Then, with the knowledge that she could never review all the books she wanted to on the podcast, she added the blog to the YALR family.
